ZipLegal
Last updated: 5 August 2026
ZipLegal has no servers. The names, dates, amounts and addresses you put into a document are held on your device and nowhere else, because there is nowhere else for them to go.
That is not a promise about how carefully we handle your data. It is a description of how the app is built: ZipLegal contains no networking code at all. This page explains what that means, and what the few remaining exceptions are.
No account needed. You can browse, buy, personalize and export without telling us who you are.
Your documents stay on your device. They are not backed up to us, not synced to any cloud of ours, and not readable by us.
The app has no analytics and no ads. No advertising identifier is read, and no tracking of any kind takes place.
Personalization runs on your device using Apple's built-in text frameworks. Nothing you type is sent anywhere for processing.
It works in aeroplane mode. That is the simplest proof of everything above.
You can delete everything in one tap, inside the app.
Everything you enter while personalizing a document — party names, dates, amounts, addresses, and any other detail — is stored on your device only. It is not transmitted to us, and there is no ZipLegal account or ZipLegal server holding a copy.
Your saved drafts, your settings, and the record of which documents you own are held in the app's own storage on the device. ZipLegal does not use iCloud sync for any of this, so your document contents are not copied to iCloud either.
Deleting the app removes all of it.
No email address, phone number, postal address, contacts, photos, calendar, health data or location. ZipLegal never asks for location permission and does not use it. We do not read your device's advertising identifier, and we never see your payment details.
We also do not collect the contents of your documents. This is worth stating plainly, because for this particular app the document contents are the sensitive part: what you are owed, who you are in dispute with, what you are protecting.
When you describe your situation in your own words, ZipLegal picks out the names, dates, amounts and durations and puts them into the right fields. That work is done on your device by Apple's built-in text-analysis frameworks, which are part of iOS.
Your sentence is not uploaded, not queued for later upload, and not sent to any external service for interpretation. There is no external service involved.
If you dictate details instead of typing them, the audio is transcribed on your device. The recording is not written to disk by ZipLegal and is never transmitted. Microphone and speech permission are requested only when you first use dictation, and you can withdraw either in iOS Settings at any time.
Signing in is optional. Everything in the app works without it.
If you do sign in, ZipLegal asks Apple only for your name — not your email address. Your name and the identifier Apple issues are stored in the app's own settings on your device and are never transmitted to us. They exist so the app can show your name and keep a stable identity on the device.
You can sign out, or delete your account and all associated data, from Settings inside the app.
Documents are one-time purchases handled entirely by Apple's App Store. We never receive or see your payment details. The app asks the App Store which documents you own so it can unlock them; that answer is used on the device and is not stored by us or sent anywhere.
Restoring purchases, including purchases made in earlier versions of ZipLegal, works through your Apple Account. Refunds are handled by Apple, and you can also contact us and we will help.
There are none. ZipLegal contains no analytics service, no crash-reporting service, no attribution service and no advertising. No third-party software development kits are included in the app at all.
Because there is no tracking, iOS will never show you the "Allow this app to track your activity" prompt — there is nothing for it to ask about.
When you export, ZipLegal writes a PDF into its own temporary storage on your device and hands it to the standard iOS share sheet. What happens next is entirely your choice: you might save it to Files, email it, print it, or send it to someone.
This is the one point at which a finished document can leave your device, and it only happens because you asked it to. Once you have handed the file to another app or service, that app or service handles it under its own privacy policy.
ZipLegal contains no networking code of its own. It does not call any API, ours or anyone else's. The only network activity comes from Apple's own frameworks, on Apple's terms.
| Service | What it is for | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Apple — App Store | Buying and restoring documents | Handled by Apple under your Apple Account. We receive no payment details. |
| Apple — Sign in with Apple | Optional sign-in | Your name only, if you choose to sign in, and it stays on your device. |
That is the whole table, and it is short because the app genuinely does nothing else. Document templates are built into the app itself rather than downloaded, which is why everything works with no signal at all.
Inside the app, open Settings → Account → Delete account and data. One tap removes every draft, every preference and your stored identity from the device.
Documents you have purchased remain restorable through your Apple Account afterwards, as Apple requires — deleting your data does not delete your purchases.
Deleting the app removes everything stored on the device as well.
Your drafts and settings stay on your device until you delete them or delete the app. Exported PDFs held in temporary storage are cleared by iOS automatically.
We hold nothing, so there is nothing on our side with a retention period. If you email us for support, we keep that correspondence only as long as needed to help you.
ZipLegal is a document tool intended for adults. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. Given that the app collects nothing from anyone, this is a statement of intent about who the app is for rather than a description of any data practice.
Because there is no account and no server, your information never reaches us in a form we could look up, correct or hand over. In practice, you already hold every control:
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or object to the processing of your personal information, and to complain to your local regulator. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles and, for people in the EEA and the UK, the GDPR.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising as those terms are used in California and comparable laws. There is no advertising in ZipLegal and no data flowing out of it to sell.
If you are unsure what applies to you, email us and we will help.
We may update this policy. Material changes will be noted here with a new date at the top of the page. If a future version of the app ever starts sending data off your device, that change will be described here before it ships, and anything of that kind will be something you opt into rather than something switched on for you.
Questions about this policy, or about a refund.
We reply as quickly as we can.
